ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਘਨ

ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਸਿਖ਼ਰ ਦੁਪਹਿਰੇ ਘਰ ਨੇੜੇ ਸੜਕ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਟ ਗਿਆ। ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ , ਪਰ ਇਕ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ "ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ-ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੜਕ 'ਤੇ ਲਿਟਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ?"
ਮੈਂ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ। ਅਗਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਕ ਤਾਸ਼ ਖੇਡ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਰੁਤਬੇ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਕਫ ਸਨ। ਸਲਾਮਾਂ ਵੱਜਣ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ; ਉਹ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਿਆ: "ਜੀ ਮੁਆਫੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਉ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਸੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਏਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਫਸਰ ਹੋ!" ਮੈਂ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੁਆਫੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ!
ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ!

Nitishatak Shaloka-6

      The endeavours of a man to bring a blockhead to the right path by the influence of his wise and mellifluous words are nowise better than the fruitless efforts of  one who ventures to keep an elephant fast bound by means of the delicate threads of a lotus stem, or to pierce a diamond by the tender fibres of  shirisa, or to sweeten the saline waters of vast ocean by pouring a single drop of nectar into its midst.-Bhartrihari (Translated by Purohit Gopi Nath, M.A., 1914)

You may even dare take out a precious gem from the pointed jaws of a dreadful alligator, or swim over the vast ocean whose waters are all disturbed by a series of furious rollong waves, or wear an enraged (offended) serpent upon your head, as if it were a flowery wreath; but, you should never underestimate the fruitless task of conciliating the mind of a stupid fellow who is determined to hold obstinately to his own conviction whether right or wrong- Bhartrihari (Translated by Purohit Gopi Nath, M.A., 1914)

ਬੁਖਲਾਏ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ

ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ 'ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ' ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੁਖਲਾਏ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਭੱਦਰ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਵਧਾਈਆਂ, ਕੁੜੀਓ, ਵਧਾਈਆਂ!
